CFP: Rumor and Libel: Source and Methodological Challenges in the Research of the Historian of the 19th Century

The Institute of History of the Warsaw University invites scholars and doctoral students to participate in the 3rd National Conference of Historians of the 19th Century. The upcoming conference will be devoted to rumors and libel in Europe and in the world until 1918.
This year, we would like to discuss the matter of rumors and libel in the following panels:
• Historical sources in the research on rumor and libel
• Research methodologies, frames of interpretation, theoretical approaches
• Analyses and interpretations, case studies
We wish for the discourse to focus on various problems such as: source studies, theoretical studies, social imageries, processes of social communication, as well as the role of rumors and libel in the creation of social relations. Our time span includes the First World War. The geographical scope of the papers is unlimited.
Notifications of acceptance will be sent by the end of March 2019. Presentation time is 20 minutes.
The organizers do not cover travel and accommodation expenses.
The languages of the conference are Polish, English and Russian. Warsaw, June 14-15, 2019
