We seek an energetic, creative and service-oriented individual to serve as the Librarian for Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies and liaison to the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures, the Armenian Studies Program, and the Weiser Center for Europe and Eurasia. This position works closely with a team of catalogers specialized in the languages of the regions and other librarians across the humanities and social sciences to support high-impact interdisciplinary collections and services, including participation in digital projects and initiatives.

Responsibilities*

  • Instruction:  Design and teach library instruction classes in Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies to students as requested by faculty; teach training sessions and workshops to the university community regarding diverse library resources.
  • Liaison Activities: Serve as the liaison to the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures, the Armenian Studies Program, and the Weiser Center for Europe and Eurasia, and provide outreach to other related academic departments and the local community. Seek opportunities for partnerships with faculty and librarian colleagues.
  • Research Services:  Provide specialized reference service and research consultations for faculty and students in the area of Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies.
  • Collection Development: Provide leadership and coordination for acquiring, managing, and assessing Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies collections in all formats and languages that support research and instruction in those fields.
  • Professional Development and Service: Engage in research, digital scholarship, scholarly publication, and professional service activities appropriate to academic librarianship and the disciplines served.

Required Qualifications*

  • A master’s degree or higher (or equivalent) in the areas of Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies or related fields; OR ALA-accredited master’s degree in Library or Information Science.
  • Significant professional or paraprofessional work experience in a research library or equivalent research setting.
  • Spoken and written proficiency in Russian.
  • Reading knowledge of at least one other language used by populations of the regions of coverage.
  • Familiarity with major Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies library resource vendors, current bibliographic tools in print and digital form, and core reference resources in the humanities and social sciences.

Desired Qualifications*

  • One or more years of teaching experience in library or academic setting.
  • Knowledge of cataloging and access issues for non-English language and analogous non-Roman script materials.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to outstanding public service and user education for a diverse academic community.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development.
  • Experience performing effectively in and successfully contributing to a diverse and inclusive workplace environment.

Benefits, rank, salary
Appointment is anticipated at the Assistant or Associate Librarian rank. Salary and rank dependent on the candidate's qualifications and experience. Librarian appointments carry with them increased expectations regarding professional development, professional engagement, research, and service, in keeping with the library's process for librarian promotion and advancement.
The target salary range for this position is $55,000 - $60,000 for the Assistant Librarian rank and $63,000 - $70,000 for the Associate Rank. The actual salary offered may vary based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
