The Ellison Center for Russian, East European and Central Asian Studies promotes in-depth interdisciplinary study of all major post-communist subregions - Eastern and Central Europe, the Baltic region, the Caucasus and Central Asia, and Russia - in order to understand the legacies of the imperial and communist past as well as to analyze the emerging institutions and identities that will shape Eurasia's future.

 

Imre Boba Summer Research Fellowship (Graduate & Undergraduate) | The Ellison Center offers the Boba Summer Research Fellowship for exceptional students studying Eastern Europe or Central Asia to travel to the region for research, internships or advanced language study in an accredited language program. Upon completion of study, Boba fellows must submit a short report on their summer experience | Awards: $1,000 | Application Deadline: January 31, 2021

Vladimir Gross Russia Scholarship (Undergraduate Summer Travel) | This scholarship is for exceptional undergraduate students, including international students, interested in studying in Russia. Priority will be given to undergraduates to travel to Russia to study the Russian language, but funds may also support undergraduate students to travel to Russia to study the country’s history, literature or culture. Upon completion of study a report on the experience will be expected. Undergraduate applicants to the Summer FLAS will be considered automatically. If you are not eligible for a FLAS, you may apply for the Gross Undergraduate Fellowship through the Jackson School Fellowship Application System | Awards: $1500 | Application Deadline: January 31, 2021


Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship (Undergraduate, Graduate & Professional Students) | Fellowships include tuition and a monthly living stipend | FLAS Fellowships support undergraduate, graduate and professional students in acquiring modern foreign languages and area studies knowledge. Students from all programs and departments are encouraged to apply. FLAS Fellowships are available to U.S. citizens and permanent residents.
