Deadline: Rolling
In light of the 30th anniversary of the end of the Cold War, Plamen Press (https://plamenpress.com) is creating a platform/blog “Steel Strings and Iron Curtains”. Scholars and literary translators are encouraged here to contribute to presenting the significance of the music sub-culture that was influential during the years leading to the collapse of Communism in Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe. We are looking for topics about singer/songwriters such as Vladimir Vysotsky, Bulat Okudzhava, Karel Kryl, Jaromir Nohavica, Djordje Belashevic or the booming Ex-Yugoslav Rock influence of Bjelo Dugme, Riblja Chorba . We would prefer articles that have not yet been published and that preset an in-depth analysis of the sub-culture of that era.
Literary translators, we are looking for translations of song lyrics that relate to this period. The translations must be artistic. Our goal is to present translations that can be sung in English to the original melodies.
We published our first posting: a translation of Jaromir Nohavica’s the Wastrel / Darmoděj.
Please take a look at our new platform at
