Wanted: free-lance language testers

The National Center for Language Assessment is seeking native speakers of many of the languages of the region we study and teach to train to be free-lance language testers.

The languages of interest include:

Armenian, Azerbaijani/Azeri, Bosnian, Bulgarian, Chechen, Czech, Estonian, Georgian, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Kurdish Kurmanji, Kurdish Sorani, Latvian, Lithuanian, Macedonian, Polish, Russian, Serbian Croatian, Slovak, Slovenia, Tajik, Turkish, Turkmen, Uighur, Ukrainian, and Uzbek.

CFP: Czech and Slovak Studies Workshop 2023, The University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign

Deadline: January 20, 2023

The Twenty-second Annual Czech and Slovak Studies Workshop, which will be held at UIUC on April 7-8, 2022, welcomes papers on Czech and Slovak topics, broadly defined, in all disciplines. In the past our interdisciplinary conference has drawn participants from colleges and universities in the United States and abroad. Areas of interest have been: anthropology, architecture, art, economics, education, film, geography, history, Jewish studies, literature, music, philosophy, politics, religion, society, sociology, and theater. Work in progress is appropriate for our workshop format. Junior faculty and advanced graduate students are particularly encouraged to participate and will get priority when it comes to accessing our limited funding for travel and accommodation.

This year’s program will also include an invited lecture by Karla Huebner of Wright State University. We plan to hold the workshop in person, with the understanding that these plans are subject to change.

 

The deadline for submitting proposals is January 20, 2023. The steering committee will review the proposals the following week.

Paper abstract of approximately 250 words that includes your name and a paper title

Curriculum vitae

 

Please also indicate whether or not you have attended a Czech and Slovak Studies Workshop in the past.

Job: Lecturer and Director of the Slovak Studies Program, University of Pittsburgh

Deadline: November 15, 2021

The Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for the position of Director of the Slovak Studies Program, pending budgetary approval. The appointment will be made at the rank of Lecturer and will begin on September 1, 2022. 
Duties include: (i) teaching beginning, intermediate, and advanced Slovak language, as well as Slovak or Slovak-comparative literature and culture in English at the undergraduate level; (ii) non-teaching duties include oversight of Slovak cultural and outreach activities in accordance with programming goals identified by the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures; (iii) scholarly publication and active participation in national professional associations is encouraged but is not a prerequisite for appointment or renewal.
