CFA: Two MA fellowships for displaced Ukrainian students, NYU

Deadline: ASAP

The department of Russian and Slavic Studies at NYU is pleased to announce two full fellowships for Master’s degree study in our interdisciplinary MA program starting in Sept. 2022. Ukrainian students displaced by the war are our top priority. If you know of any of them who might take advantage of this opportunity, we'd be grateful if you pass to them the following information:

1. About the academic program: Here is general information about the curriculum: https://as.nyu.edu/content/nyu-as/as/departments/russianslavic/graduate/ma-in-russian-and-slavic-studies.html. Instruction is in English. We are very sorry to say that we have no Ukrainian content as of now (we are working on it). Students can take graduate classes not only in our department, but also in other departments (for example History and International Relations) on topics related to Russian and Slavic. Students generally take 3-4 classes per semester. Classes are small and advising is intensive. We have an excellent record of placing our MA graduates in North American PhD programs.
2. About the application process: Here is the application website for NYU Graduate School of Arts and Science: https://apply.gsas.nyu.edu/apply. Application fees will be waived for students affected by the war. We also understand that it will be difficult for displaced students to send in materials like transcripts, recommendation letters, TOEFL scores; we can be flexible on those points.
3. About finances: For the 2022-23 academic year, the fellowship will provide all tuition and include a living stipend of around $31,000 (the stipend amount will probably go up a little bit the following year). For students affected by the war, we can also cover air fare from Europe and provide two weeks of free dormitory residence August 1-15. We will do our best to provide further financial aid as needed and to help students settle and adjust.
4. About employment within NYU: After one semester of taking classes, students may also apply to work as teaching Assistants in NYU's Core classes (a competitive process). TAs earn up to $5000 per semester.

If you have more questions about the MA program and the fellowships, please, write to rossen.djagalov@nyu.edu.
