Deadline: May 1, 2022
Pitt's Summer Language Institute (SLI).
Our applications to domestic programs are officially open until May 1, and we strongly encourage students to apply as early as possible for the best admission and funding outcomes. After May 1, interested students should reach out to us to inquire about rush processing. I am pleased to relay that, as of this message, we still have significant scholarship funding available for all programs. All applicants are eligible to apply for scholarship funding, including "non-traditional" students who are not matriculated in a degree program.
Please note our reinstated programs in Ukrainian and Bulgarian, both of which will accommodate in-person and online (synchronous) participation.
SLI has carefully considered student demand for various instructional formats and is currently still accepting applications for the following domestic languages, levels, and formats at www.sli.pitt.edu:
Arabic: Beginning and Intermediate (in-person and online)
Bosnian/Croatian/Montenegrin/ Serbian: Beginning, Intermediate, and 4th-year Advanced (in-person and online)
Bulgarian: Beginning (in-person and online)
Czech: Beginning (in-person and online)
Polish: Beginning, Intermediate (in-person); Advanced (in-person and online)
Russian: Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced (in-person and online); 4th-year Advanced (in-person)
Slovak: Beginning and 4th-year Advanced (in-person and online); Intermediate (online)
Turkish: Beginning and Intermediate (in-person)
Ukrainian: Beginning (in-person and online)
SLI is planning to run abroad programs at two sites in 2022. Students interested in attending SLI abroad should immediately reach out to us at sliadmin@pitt.edu about the possibility of applying late on an individualized basis as the applications are no longer open online:
Bosnian/Croatian/Montenegrin/ Serbian in Montnegro: 10-week Pittsburgh+Podgorica program at the Beginning, Intermediate, and 4th-year levels
Czech in Prague: 6-week and 4-week abroad-only program in Prague, Czech Republic at the Intermediate, Advanced and 4th-year levels; and 10-week Pittsburgh+Prague program at the Beginning level.
(Unfortunately, we were forced to cancel our abroad programs in Krakow and Bratislava in 2022 due to complications arising from the refugee crisis. We are looking forward to reinstating those two programs in 2023.)
Please direct students seeking intensive language instruction in any of these languages to our website for the application links: www.sli.pitt.edu. They may get in contact with us at sliadmin@pitt.edu.
