CfP - Assessment of Russian as a Foreign Language

Assessment of Russian as a Foreign Language: Unlocking Proficiency

Do you teach Russian as a foreign, second, or heritage language? Are you interested in assessment?

Please consider submitting a proposal for the edited volume titled Assessment of Russian as a Foreign Language: Unlocking Proficiency in the Routledge series on Russian language pedagogy and research.

Here are some potential topics to be included in the volume:

· assessing the four language skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing)

· short- and long-term monitoring of academic achievement

· development of reliable and valid performance, task, and content-based assessment tools

· standardized and placement testing

· self-assessment

· technology-assisted language assessment using digital game-based learning platforms, generative AI tools, etc.

· corpus linguistics and assessment

· the washback effect

· grade inflation

· strategies, characteristics, and practices of ungrading

· assessment of, for, and as learning

· evaluation of student learning as a student-centered practice

· the principles of ethical and fair assessment

Language of publication: English; 3,000 to 5,000 words + references and appendices.

Consideration will be given to theory-heavy explorations, research, and submissions that focus on teaching practices. International participation is especially encouraged; please consider reaching out to a colleague outside your country.

Proposal requirements: up to a 300-word expression of interest, outlining main arguments and methodology, if applicable, along with a short professional background of the author/s.

Timeline:

- Up to 300-word expression of interest due: April 15, 2024

- Notification of acceptance: April 22, 2024

- First draft of chapters due: June 10, 2024

- Revisions following double-blind peer review: draft due August 10, 2024

- Final manuscripts due: September 22, 2024

- Publication: Spring of 2025
