This is a friendly reminder of our March 9, 2026 deadline for the 2026 Summer Professional Development and Fellowship Opportunity for US Teachers of Russian at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
Once again, I would kindly ask your assistance in drawing this opportunity to the attention of potentially interested colleagues.
Summer Fellowships Awards provide round-trip international and domestic air transportation from the participant’s home to Almaty, tuition, housing and 2 meals per day, pre-departure orientation in Washington, DC, cultural program, insurance and an allowance for the acquisition of teaching materials.
Fifteen (15) U. S. teachers will be accepted and funded for participation in the four-week 2026 program, which will consist of small group work, individual tutorials, and seminars based on a curriculum which emphasizes four-skill communication in contemporary Russian, clarity and confidence of teacher self-expression, advanced grammar in context, and an expanded understanding of the diverse peoples and cultures that make up the Russian-speaking world today.
The ACTR Board has recommended that K-12 teachers, university teaching assistants and college-level instructors be given a priority for acceptance into the Almaty summer program.
Participants will reside with local, Russian-speaking professional families and participate in cultural activities and excursions. American Councils shares academic leadership of the program with KazNU; on-site organizational and emergency support includes a full-time US resident director and dedicated local staff for the duration of the program.
Upon successful completion of the program, participants are eligible to receive graduate-level academic credit from Bryn Mawr College. More detailed information about the program can be found at: https://www.studyabroad. americancouncils.org/srlt
Program Dates: June 25 – July 26, 2026
Do not hesitate to contact us by email at outbound@americancouncils.org with any questions.
